SN update

Reflection and future directions for developing this site.

Although there has not been much visible development on this site for a while now the concept of Synusia network has been developing and I still think there is a place for this kind of a site.

We recenty started a new project (nuemo) with a colleague of mine and I got the opportunity to explore the possibilities of this site in practice.  read more »

Log in with your OpenID

Take a step towards having a single username and a single password for all websites.

You can now use your openid to log into your account. This feature might still be a bit buggy though. To enable your openid: login to your account -> profile -> openID identities (tab) -> add identity.

If you don't yet have an openid identity you can get one eg from myopenid.com. If you don't know what openid is you can get a detailed intro at openid.net. Basically it is a digital identity which allows you for example to use the same userid and password on every openid enabled site (which is nice).

Rethinking Synusia Network

Now after a couple of weeks of prototyping and discussing with people about this concept I think we need some refocusing here. In the initial plan, as I see it now, three concepts were mixed up, or at least not clearly separated from each other:

1. Generative, collaborative thinking and innovating, dialogue
2. Open sourced business, which refers eg to collaborative innovation, where the results are free for everyone to use
3. Consumer design, which refers eg to consumers being active in product development by submitting and voting for feature requests  read more »

Main idea categories

Now the 'ideas' have five main categories: business, culture, design, product / service, and technology.

Product / service: These are ideas about what to provide to the customer.

Technology: These are ideas about how exactly the products and services are built internally.

Business: These are ideas about how to make profitable business out of the products and services. This includes business models, branding, marketing etc.

Design: These are ideas including eg usability and aesthetic issues.

Culture: These are ideas on how to make the other above parts happen. This includes issues like organizational culture, structure, processes, leadership...

Site Update - May 7th, 2007

New Server: The site has finally got a reasonably fast web server. There should be significant improvement in the responsiveness of the site. Downtime is expected to be reduced as well.

Navigation: The navigation is simplified form what it was a week ago. The first signs of some kind of a site structure are starting to emerge.  read more »

Your blog feeds from other sites

I know many of you have blogs on some other sites. At first I thought of users having their own blog here too, but now I think it would make more sense to just import and aggregate the existing blogs here using rss feeds.

So my question is: who of you would like to publish your own blog on this site? Or do you think it would make more sense to have site-specific blogs here too?

General discussion + recent changes

Added
- General discussion -content type, can be created in a "group" view (right sidebar), this is meant to be a kind of a fall-back content type when the topic is not really an idea or a problem
- Problem -content type, can also be created in the header action menu
- Chatroom experimental: currently a java-based IRC -application, probably not the best approach
- New "theme" and look: practical reasons, this theme is designed to be customized and extended to.
- Some more minor changes...

Interactive tools for problem solving

What: Interactive tools to facilitate problem solving, eg brainstorming and other methods.

Why: We could facilitate communication with low latency at this site and increase the amount of collaboratively created ideas at this site.

How: We could start out by having simple chat rooms which could be developed further to include some extra functionality for problem solving.

Site content

I think we should have a couple of different "content types" on this site. Now we have only one: idea.

Two other relevant types came up in a conversation yesterday: a 'problem' and a generic 'thought'.  read more »

Minimalistic site

The conclusion in many recent discussions that we should have a clear focus with this site. Therefore the site is now stripped down to the most important functionality. There was a plan to integrate wikis, blogs, forums etc. to the site, but they are now left waiting for clear demand from the community.
