Getting Real

A book on building successful web apps - free online

"Getting Real is a smaller, faster, better way to build software."

Anything in the web that can capture the attention of anyone for two hours on the first visit to the site is worth bookmarking.

Easy to read and makes a lot of sense (to me anyway).

We feel fine

Browse the web by feelings

"We Feel Fine is an exploration of human emotion on a global scale."

The site contains a web application that organizes and visualizes content drawn from a number of weblogs by feeling. I picked this one up from the Ted talks today as the other one of the creators gave a pretty good presentation about it.

Slightly more fun than searching google.

Fun into education

Elementeo's 13-year-old CEO and his elevator pitch

Software for mindmapping and information organisation

Blogposts, descriptions and links to new software on mindmapping and information visualization.

So far the best site that I've found to gather information on all this type of software in one place. Both free and commercial applications.

Myths about the developing world, Hans Rosling, TEDTalks

Update your understanding on global development.

An eye-opening presentation that shows that statistics can be entertaining too.

I already posted the link for TED website, but I just have to try out this embedded video thing.

Edge of the world's knowledge

Articles by leading thinkers.

From their site:

"To arrive at the edge of the world's knowledge, seek out the most complex and sophisticated minds, put them in a room together, and have them ask each other the questions they are asking themselves."

The site is slightly confusing but once you find the many insightful articles there are quite many of them.

Resources on Creativity and Innovation

collection of web links on creativity and innovation

This one looks a bit out-dated too but has links to many interesting on-line resources.

Compendium of idea generation methods

Idea generation methods from a to z briefly explained.

Outdated-looking webpage which has a huge list of idea generation methods.

Venture Itch

A blog watching new startups.

There seems to be quite a bunch of blogs watching new startups now that I've started looking for them. Here's one more which made a good first impression on me. They have about 5 new posts a day at the moment.

From their site:

"We profile fledgling startups trying to understand what makes business tick (and what does not). In addition to this, we cover interesting websites, productivity tools and scripts, emerging technologies and interesting market research briefs."
